Weathered Oak Farms

It's a busy afternoon at Weathered Oak Farms newest location on the outskirts of Shelbyville, Kentucky. A handful of customers are welcomed at the door of their store on 6950 Shelbyville Road in Simpsonville.

The staff is quick to greet visitors, many of whom are stepping into the store for the first time. "We're just checking out the new location," the customers shared with the barista. Their baked goods are selling fast. The staff admits that at 11 a.m. today they sold out their signature cinnamon rolls. “Stop back tomorrow, early.”

Shalane and Travis Adkinson recently opened this Weathered Oak Farms property in October of 2021. This coffee and mercantile has much heart behind the operation. While not originally planning on opening a "eatery," today they are delightfully surprised by how it is going. Their shelves are lined with potted plants, vintage quilts, local pottery, and handmade soaps to sell.

Amidst roadblocks and the winding path of their business, their family continues to be grounded in hope. For years, Adkinson's cinnamon rolls were sold at the local Simpsonville farmers market. With Shalane's father's passing recently and amidst COVID-19, opening the coffee shop is seen as an opportunity. Their team has created a fun place to carry on their family tradition while sharing her father's famous sourdough starter. The Adkinson's will also feature in-season blooms from their fresh-cut flower farm in the spring.

Guests rave about their NYC-style bagels, slices of sourdough toast, and fresh sandwiches accompanied by various artisan coffees and teas on the menu. The Adkinsons created the Weathered Oak Farms to create relationships and community more than solely running a business.
